Surinder Dhesi

Surinder Dhesi DL has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2022. She is part of the Lieutenancy team focused on Banbury and works closely with Oxfordshire County Council for the Lieutenancy.

Surinder was born in India and moved to England when she was 4.  She finished her schooling in Derby and moved to Banbury when she got married. She worked for Marks & Spencer for 38 years and currently works as a Civil Servant.

Surinder is heavily involved in her local community. For about 20 years, Surinder was a Councillor for Cherwell District Council and Banbury Town Council (2001–21).  She also served as County Councillor for two terms. Surinder was Mayor of Banbury (2004–5) and was elected as President of the Banbury Rotary Club in 2020.  She is their first female President. Surinder is also a Trustee of the Sunshine Centre Banbury, which is a family centre for vulnerable people and families, and Citizens Advice.

Surinder was awarded with British Citizen Award (BCA) in March 2022.

She lives in Banbury with her husband, Balbir, and her two boys.
