Yesterday, Monday 27th January, marked Holocaust Memorial Day. It was a profound honour for Deputy-Lieutenant Imam Monawar Hussain to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the commemoration held at Oxford Town Hall.
This year’s theme, ‘Bridging Generations’, presents an opportunity to remind ourselves of the collective duty to continue remembrance, even as the survivors may no longer be with us. The moving testimonies shared yesterday underscore the vital importance of connecting our history with our future. We must ensure that the stories of those who suffered are not only heard but carried forward by the next generation, and this forms part of the responsibility we each have to safeguard the lessons of the past.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise the day and to the community of Oxford for coming together to share a truly moving service.
