The Vice Lord-Lieutenant is Lynda Atkins DL

Lynda is Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire. In addition, she has served as Deputy Lieutenant since 2019.

The Vice Lord-Lieutenant is appointed, with The Sovereign's approval, by the Lord-Lieutenant from amongst her Deputy Lieutenants.

She plays a substantial role in managing Lieutenancy projects and may also deputise for the Lord-Lieutenant on many occasions, including at Royal visits and other official engagements.

About Lynda

Lynda formerly served in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (Territorial Army). Her civilian career then began in the National Health Service and, from 1995, in the Civil Service in a range of roles within the Department of Health. She became Assistant Director of Performance Management for NHS England – Southeast.

Lynda became an internal Management Consultant also before setting up her own business, Under the Rainbow Limited, in 2003 to provide business support and project management for a wide range of hospital projects.

Then, from 2008 to 2019, Lynda served as an independent County Councillor for her hometown of Wallingford. During that time, Lynda got involved in working with the Armed Forces and acted as the County Council Military Champion for RAF Benson. She was also a member of Wallingford Town Council and served as Town Mayor on two occasions. 

Meanwhile, from 2012 to 2015, Lynda worked as Chief of Staff to Ed Vaizey MP in the Wantage and Didcot constituency.

In 2015, Lynda became the Oxfordshire County Chairman of the Royal British Legion (RBL). She became a National Trustee, and she now serves as National Vice Chair. Additionally, Lynda is now County Chair of the South East Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (SERFCA), Trustee of the Wallingford and District Talking Newspaper, and President of the Oxfordshire Association of Local Councils.
