Ron Spurs
Ron Spurs DL has served as Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2021. He is part of the Lieutenancy group focused on West Oxfordshire and is the Lieutenancy’s link to Witney. He is a member of the Lieutenancy’s Honours and Awards Committee and holds the Lieutenancy’s cadets brief for the County.
Ron was once a Police Officer working in Milton Keynes and Oxford, following service in the RAF. He later transferred to the Metropolitan Police Service and held specialist and operational roles in Central London and at New Scotland Yard. Additionally, he studied for degrees in Policing Studies, Defence and Internal Security, and Business Administration. He was then employed by Barclaycard (Business), upon leaving the Police, as Head of Business Continuity. Ron became Town Clerk at Carterton in West Oxfordshire in 2015 and now works as a consultant in local government.
In Witney, Ron formerly served as Chairman of the Witney Carnival Committee, and he still works closely with the Rotary Club of Witney, the Lions Club of Witney, 2120 Witney Air Cadet Squadron (of which he is Chair), and Witney Town Council to deliver the Carnival and the Procession. He has been President of the Witney Rotary Club on two occasions. He is additionally Chairman of Forces Support, which is a national charity based in Witney providing housing and general support to military veterans around the country.
Ron lives in Witney with his wife Laura.
