Major James Sibbald
Major James Sibbald DL MSc FRGS FloD has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2023. He is part of the Lieutenancy team focused on the Vale of White Horse and is the Lieutenancy’s link to Grove. He holds the Lieutenancy’s Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion brief for his team.
James formerly served in The Royal Regiment of Artillery for seventeen years and reached the rank of Major. During this time, he attained a Masters in Design of Information Systems from Cranfield University, Shrivenham. Currently, he is Senior Manager and the Armed Forces Champion of ESRI (UK) Limited, the global market leader in geographic information systems.
Outside of work, James served as a Town Councillor in Wantage for some thirteen years and was Mayor of Wantage five times. He is involved at Branch and County level of The Royal British Legion, having served as the County Chairman for The Royal County of Berkshire and the Vale of White Horse until 2024. He is currently a committee member of the Oxfordshire Army Benevolent Fund and a governor of Fitzwaryn Special Educational Needs and Disability School.
James is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and Fellow of The Royal Geographical Society. He is married to Christina, has adult children, and lives in a house full of dogs. Christina is a Guide Dogs Volunteer who raises guide dog puppies on occasions.
