Sir Charles Ponsonby

Sir Charles Ponsonby Bt. DL has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2014. He is part of the Lieutenancy team focused on West Oxfordshire and is the Lieutenancy’s link to Burford. He is also Chair of the Lieutenancy’s Honours and Awards Committee, which promotes and reviews Royal Garden Party invitations and helps validate certain nominations for national Honours.

Charles was educated at the University of Oxford, after which he spent 36 years in the financial services sector, successively, as an accountant, a corporate financier, and a financial public relations consultant.

In Oxfordshire, Charles has served variously as Chairman of Oxfordshire Youth; Treasurer of The Sandford Trust, which distributed grants; as a Governor of the Henry Box School, Witney, and of Wootton-by-Woodstock Church of England Primary School; and as the Treasurer and Clerk of the Parrott and Lee Educational Foundation, which existed primarily to support that school in Wootton-by-Woodstock, for some 30 years. Charles is now a Trustee of The Oxfordshire Playing Fields Association and a Governor of Tackley Church of England Primary School in Kidlington.

Charles lives near Banbury, having lived near Woodstock for 34 years, with his wife Mary.
