HRH The Princess Royal visits Watchfield Primary School and the Shrivenham Resilience Group

HRH The Princess Royal visited the south-west of the County. Met on arrival by Marjorie Glasgow, HRH was introduced to Jane Cranston DL, Duncan Millard, the CEO of Faringdon Learning Trust, Georgina Wittle, the Headteacher of Watchfield Primary School and Ian Wright, Chair of Governors of the Primary School who in turn presented Wing Commander Leonie Boyd of the Shrivenham Defence Academy. HRH was given a brief talk about the link between the school and the Defence Academy, and the school’s SOAR programme before going on a tour of the school. During the tour she observed children taking part in activities related to the SOAR programme and was then invited to plant a tree for the Queen’s Green Canopy. Following a meeting with the school’s Eco Council and a short talk about the outdoor learning provision at the school, HRH departed for Shrivenham Memorial Hall where she met the Shrivenham Resilience Group. Met on arrival by Dennis Blease DL, HRH was introduced to Richard Bartle, the Chair of the Parish Council, and his wife Christine. She was also introduced to Julia Evans, Clerk of the Parish Council, Chris Hand, the Chair of the Resilience Group and his wife, Carol. Mr Hand provided HRH with an overview of the work done and the support given to the community by the Resilience Group both during the pandemic and currently. HRH was given the opportunity to meet volunteers involved and residents who have benefitted from the work of the Resilience Group.
