Peter Bennett-Jones

Peter Bennett-Jones CBE DL has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2020. He convenes the group of DLs focused on Oxford West. He is a member of the Lieutenancy’s Honours and Awards Committee and holds the Lieutenancy’s arts and the media brief for the County.

Peter is a British film, stage, and television producer and agent. His credits include the Vicar of Dibley, Mr Bean, and Billy Elliot. He also represents global stars, and over the years these have included Rowan Atkinson, Lenny Henry, the late Barry Humphries, and Eddie Izzard. Peter was awarded both the BAFTA Special Award and the Royal Television Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 for his contribution to television and for his work as a founder and long-term chair of Comic Relief and Sport Relief.

Peter has also worked for many charities. In addition to his work for Comic Relief, he was Chair of Save the Children UK, and today is a Trustee of the Prudence Trust, a mental health foundation. In the arts world, he has been a Trustee of Liverpool Everyman/Playhouse, the Oxford Playhouse, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and of the Royal National Theatre, for whom he chaired the Production Board. He has also served as a Governor of Rugby School; he chaired its pioneering Arnold Foundation.

Peter was awarded a CBE in 2014 for his services to the entertainment industry and to charity.

Peter and his family have lived in Oxford since 1997.
